Vilano Beach, located two miles north of St. Augustine Florida, is a secret gem, that is usually bypassed by visitors. But, with far fewer people visiting this beach and river area, I’d suggest you make it your base when visiting St. Augustine. The river, only blocks from the beach, is home to endangered manatees, fish, right whales and alligators, putting you at one with nature. Plus, you’ll get to experience this sunset, all to yourself.
Vilano Beach is a more sedate beach atmosphere with easy access to St. Augustine. Vilano Beach has beachfront motels, located south of Jacksonville.
Vilano Beach is slowly blossoming into a bustling community with a town center, cozy restaurants, outdoor cafés, condos, and hotels. The area is popular with fishermen, skimboarders, and bird-watchers (125 species of birds call it home). This isn’t a good place to take little ones swimming, though, as the beaches aren’t developed and currents can be fierce.
